Are you not sure what you’re really looking for?
That’s all good we’re here to help! In this section, you’re going to find dry hand pipes, which means these are pipes that do not use water filtration like bongs, bubblers, or concentrate rigs. These are your traditional glass pipes used for smoking dried herbs. While they are very simple in design, there are a few designs to be aware of to make the best buying decision.
What is a Chillum or Taster?
Chillums and tasters are essentially a tube that has an end that’s a mouthpiece and another end that sports a loading chamber/bowl. These are great inconspicuous pipes that are easy to conceal, great for a quick toke on the run. Chillums usually have a larger capacity to fit herb, while tasters usually have enough for one decent drag.
What is a Spoon Pipe?
A spoon is a glass pipe that looks like a spoon! Not much to it. These pipes introduce a carburetor or carb hole usually somewhere close to the loading chamber. Traditionally that carb hole is located on one of the sides of the bowl, or in some cases the back. These pipes still have a chamber for herb and a mouthpiece, but the carb allows for more control of the lighting process as well as control of the airflow of the pipe. You can take small puffs or huge rips, by using your thumb or fingers to cover or open the carb hole you’ll be in full control. This is the most common type of pipe you’ll find!
What is a Steamroller?
A steamroller is a tube-shaped pipe, similar in design to a chillum or taster, but not in scale or function. Steamrollers are usually 4” or larger with most being 6” or greater on average. Steamrollers are a tube with a mouthpiece at one end and a carb hole on the other, somewhere between the ends, usually closer to the carb hole will be the bowl or loading chamber. This is really a marriage of the spoon pipe idea with a giant one-hitter. People like these pipes due to their vicious and powerful puffs! Since the tubes are usually 6” or larger people can take huge rips. Some people say that it’s like taking a dry bong hit, but we don’t buy that shit. If you like it, then that’s what’s up! Smoke it your way!
What is Sherlock?
Sherlocks are spoon pipes that look like they’ve been stretched out to resemble a wooden tobacco pipe. Like the one that Sherlock Holmes used??? Yeah like that! Since we deal in glass pipes, these are awesome-looking pipes that actually serve a functional purpose as well.
The advent of wooden curved pipes was due to men of that time period having facial hair, namely beards and mustaches.
They wanted to make a pipe that lowered the risk of setting their face whiskers on fire, thus the curved or Sherlock style of pipe was born!
They still do the same thing, but most people actually like them for the style and extra air path.
The more air path in your piece the cooler the smoke will be. When you’re dealing with smoking vs dabbing, the air path is extremely important. These are great pipes but not as popular as they once were, but we know that all things come back around and it’s about time for Sherlocks to come roaring back!
